SANFORD, Fla. -- A four year old girl was still missing Monday morning.
Jessica Vargas Biatriz was snatched during a murder in Sanford and the little girl's father told Channel 9 he thinks he knows who planned the kidnapping.
Investigators were still trying to find the men who violently took the little girl from her father. But Eduardo Vargas believes it was the child's mother, his estranged wife, who was behind the whole thing, though she is not considered a suspect in this case.
Just returning home from the hospital on Sunday, Eduardo Vargas was nursing the wounds he suffered after being stabbed three times. But the physical pain couldn't compare to what he was feeling emotionally.
A family friend translated for Vargas who only speaks Spanish
“All he wants is his daughter," Vargas said.
Police said it was little Jessica's mother who came to pick up her daughter at her dad's apartment complex on Oak Avenue in Sanford. The father said he was walking down the front steps in the dark when a man demanded he hand over his daughter.
"They took the little girl from him and gave her to the mother took off running," said Christina Dub, the media manager for the case.
According to detectives there were a group of three to five men with Jessica's mother, Leticia Martinez Beatriz. Those men got into a knife fight over the little girl with Jessica's dad, Eduardo. Eduardo was hurt and so was his brother and his two roommates. One of them died, but police have not released his identity.
There were few leads when it came to tracking down the suspects who took off running with Jessica and her mother. Jessica's father said she wanted to stay with him.
"He doesn't wasn't want to force her to go with her mom. It's what the little girl wants that's the big issue here," said Dub.

SANFORD -- A 4-year-old girl who was at the center of a weekend melee that left one man dead and three others injured remained missing Monday.
Although Jessica Vargas Biatriz may be with her mother, investigators are worried about her safety, Sanford police spokeswoman Cleo Cohen said.
"We have absolutely no idea where she is," Cohen said.
Police said the girl was taken from her father's Sanford apartment Saturday night by her mother, Leticia Martinez, 21, and four unidentified men.
All five went to the apartment on South Oak Avenue and went inside, Cohen said.
That's when a fight broke out.
The girl's father and three other men inside the apartment were stabbed. One of them, Osman Javera Rivera-Alvardo, 29, died of his wounds, Cohen said
The stabbings occurred just before 10 p.m. Saturday. There was considerable confusion at first because stabbing victims were reported in the 2400 blocks of both Oak and Myrtle avenues. Two of the victims from the apartment had run to a home a block west on Myrtle to get help, Cohen said.
Martinez and the men fled in a white compact four-door car. Witnesses gave a possible tag number of 036 JPG.
Martinez had been living at an apartment complex on West 25th Street in Sanford, but when investigators went to the apartment, it was vacant, Cohen said.
Investigators don't know if the child's parents were married and have seen no paperwork that outlines who has custody of Jessica, Cohen said.
They also don't know how long the girl had lived with her father, whose name was not released.
